Clean towels matter as much as your wash technique. A towel carrying grit, wax residue or lint can turn a final wipe-down into extra work. Follow the towel's care instructions first, then use this routine for Casey Performance microfiber.
Sort towels before washing
Separate microfiber from cotton clothing and bath towels to reduce lint transfer. Within your detailing towels, keep paint and drying towels apart from heavily soiled wheel, tire and engine-bay towels. Shake out loose debris away from your clean supplies. If a towel drops onto gravel or a dirty floor, remove it from paint duty until it has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
Wash with a suitable detergent
Use a microfiber-safe detergent and the amount recommended on its label. Wash in cool or warm water according to the towel's care instructions. Avoid fabric softener and bleach. Give towels room to move in the machine; an overfilled drum makes rinsing harder. If detergent remains after washing, run another rinse before drying.
Dry gently
Air dry or tumble dry on low heat. Skip dryer sheets and high heat. Check that the dryer is free of lint from previous loads. Put towels away only when they are fully dry.
Inspect and store
Look for embedded debris, hardened residue or damaged edges before using a towel on paint. Washing does not guarantee that every contaminant has been removed. Move questionable towels to appropriate non-paint tasks or replace them. Store clean towels in a covered bin, separated by job.
Match the towel to the task
Use The Finisher drying towel after washing, and reserve The Gray Beast or The Yellow Rag for buffing and finishing. A clean section of towel and light pressure are better than repeatedly wiping with a dirty face.
